Ludwig von Mises chose that quote in high school to be his personal motto. I believe a man is as good as his heroes and a newly acquired hero of mine is Mises. He is a champion of economics and individual liberty. You may wonder how economics is linked with liberty and how they come hand in hand. Simply, you exercise your liberty each time you spend a dollar by using that dollar as a vote. Every day of every year you are dealing with economics. The products sold in stores are there because people like us buy them. We earn our money with hard work and it is worth every effort to learn at least the basics of economics in order to understand what is happening to our economy. With that foundation each time we spend, save, or lend out our hard earned cash we gain a deeper appreciation for life and liberty. We also learn the dangers of what may be lurking in order to reduce those liberties. We say never trust a politician, but then we give them a monopoly over the money supply hoping they will take care of us.

Ludwig von Mises was a man of character concerned with the state of the world and the future. He witnessed first hand how government intervention caused catastrophe to the economy. He dissected socialism proving it could never be successful, most likely a success for the rulers, but never for the people. He opposed big government and the inflation of the economy. You can probably see now why he is influential for people such as Ron Paul and Murray Rothbard, who both speak in the film. Mises writes the truth with every word and is a major inspiration for my search for the truth. Watch the video above about his life and be amazed at his courage in the face of the Nazi’s burning his books. He fought for freedom to the end, as we all should.
